Kiiwi / Mouse clicks

Mouse click sounds

Your Mac's mouse and trackpad make no sound. Kiiwi gives every click one: pick a sound below, then click the pad with either button.

Left and right each play a press and a release, panned to their side. Headphones make it obvious.

How they are made

Six of the eight are designed for Kiiwi rather than sampled. Each of those is a few layers, a few thousandths of a second long: the snap you hear as the click, a tone underneath for weight, and for some, the tiny bounce of a real switch contact. Microswitch is modelled on a real mouse button, close up. Ping and Wooden come from the open source MechvibesDX project (MIT).

Clicks count toward the thock counter on the homepage, alongside every key typed on this site.

Questions

Can a Mac play a sound when you click the mouse?

Yes. macOS has no setting for it, but Kiiwi plays a sound for every click, in every app. You pick one of 8 sounds from the menu bar.

Does it work with a trackpad?

Yes. Clicks on the trackpad play the same sound as clicks on a mouse. Left and right each get their own press and release, panned to their side, so headphones make it obvious.

Are mouse click sounds on by default?

No. They're off until you turn them on in the menu bar, so Kiiwi starts out as keyboard sounds only.

Does it have scroll sounds too?

Yes. Kiiwi also has scroll ticks in six styles, off by default like the clicks.

Can I hear them before I buy?

Yes. The pad above plays every sound in your browser, with a press and a release for each button.
